Haitian Timoun Foundation
The Haitian Timoun Foundation (HTF) is a non-profit organization and dynamic grass-roots movement whose mission is to create a future of hope, sustainability, and dignity for the children of Haiti by identifying visionary Haitian-led organizations in the areas of Education, Poverty Eradication, and Leadership Development.
Holy Cross has been a partner with HTF since 2008. Holy Cross' commitment of 5% of its annual budget to HTF puts it among the top 10% of congregations in the 4.9 million member Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in terms of missional giving beyond its four walls. It is in the top 1% of ELCA congregations in the state of California.
Holy Cross' commitment to the children of Haiti extends well beyond money. Holy Cross has hosted the world-renowned dance troupe, The Resurrection Dance Theatre of Haiti (RDTH), first in October 2008, and then again in March 2010. The dance troupe's first trip to Holy Cross was part of two week tour to raise $70,000 to finish Lekol sen Trinite (the School at Trinity House) in Jacmel, Haiti, a school that provides a free education for the poorest of the poor in the southern Haiti town. Holy Cross Lutheran School raised more than $1500 for HTF's "Give a Kid Shot Program", an immunization program through Grace Children's Hospital in Port-au-Prince for children from birth through age 5. The second tour, lasting one month, followed the horrific earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. This tour was targeted at raising funds to rebuild St. Joseph's Home for Boys, which was destroyed in the earthquake. In their third tour to California, Holy Cross was part of a six-state tour for RDTH, with the goal to raise $250,000 to rebuild Wings of Hope, a group home in Fermathe, Haiti, for 35 children/young adults with special needs. That goal has now been realized!
The children of Haiti are a part of our family, and we have their backs!
